For the second consecutive year, Bazzara ranks first in the ‘Selection Coffee’ category, an award given by haute cuisine chefs at the Luxury Food & Beverage Quality Awards 2024

Milan, November 4th, 2024 – Bazzara Caffè, a renowned artisanal roasting firm based in Trieste, has been awarded for the second consecutive year at the prestigious Luxury Food & Beverage Quality Awards 2024. The jury, composed by some of the most famous Italian chefs including Alessandro Pipero, Andrea Berton, Davide Caranchini, Enrico Cerea, Fabrizio Albini, Francesco Sarno, Gennaro Esposito, Gian Piero Vivalda, Giancarlo Morelli, Giuseppe d’Errico, Isa Mazzocchi, Mauro Elli, Paola Bertinotti, and Theo Penati, chose to recognize the excellence of the luxury Panarabica blends line as the best selection coffee in a context that saw the participation of coffee companies from all over the country.

The award ceremony took place on Monday, November 4th, during Golosaria Milano, a famous exhibition showcasing the best of Italian food and beverage.

Panarabica luxury blends by Bazzara: A Sensory Journey Across Three Continents

The Panarabica line was awarded for its three 100% Arabica blends that, in their refined complexity, bring a triumph of balance and contrasts to the cup, encapsulating the richness of three continents. Each stage of this extraordinary adventure reveals exceptional aromas and flavors that intertwine like a cartographic itinerary, first crossing the lands of America from North to South, then leading, sip by sip, into the heart of the cradle of humanity, and finally discovering the ancient Asian traditions.

Panamericana: The goodness of a blend journeying through the entire American continent. Thanks to the eleven Arabicas used, hints of exotic fruit and cocoa pulp blend with pastry notes, offering a sweet and balanced flavor.

Panafricana: The essence of the African continent in a single blend. From the mineral hints of African lands, citrus and wine notes emerge, revealing an unmistakable taste.

Panasiatica: From a journey along the ancient spice route, a blend is born where syrupy body reconciles the bold hints of the Nepalese peaks and the fruits of the Indonesian forests, with a peppery finish that surprises the taster with a nod to the typical spices of Indian markets.

This sensory journey was conceived by Marco Bazzara, Quality Manager, Q-grader, and Academy Director of the Bazzara Academy, in a process that took years to perfectly calibrate the profiles of these complex recipes, resulting in a truly refined product. “Supporting the selection of the best Arabica varieties is the expertise of important companies in the sector working alongside us” adds Marco Bazzara.

Luxury Food & Beverage Quality Awards 2024

The prestigious award given by Michelin-star chef Mauro Elli from the restaurant Il Cantuccio, was received by Cristina Gallo, Brand Manager, and Adriano Rosso, Art Director at Bazzara Caffè. “Receiving this recognition for the second consecutive year is an immense satisfaction for the entire team, especially considering that it is a new line launched only in October 2023,” says Cristina Gallo. “The prestige of the title is enhanced by the big names of the chefs on the jury – who certainly do not go unnoticed – and it is an important confirmation for us that the Bazzara Luxury Blends range, composed of the three Panarabica and the Dodicigrancru blend, awarded last year, is receiving the appreciation we hoped for.”

“Our ideal customer is a high-end consumer: a sophisticated person, capable of appreciating both the quality of the product and the elegance with which it is presented,” adds Adriano Rosso. “In the world of luxury and haute cuisine, the aim is to create a true experience designed to amaze the consumer. Therefore, our goal, when someone savors a Bazzara coffee, is to give them a moment of pure joy, identified as a ‘small daily luxury,’ and this award is proof that we are on the right track.”

During the competition, the best high-end products were divided in 11 categories, including, of course, selection coffee. All products were tasted and judged by an excellent jury composed of chefs and professionals from the haute cuisine sector. The Panarabica line was thus selected as the best product in its category among a selection of renowned Italian coffees, further consolidating Bazzara’s reputation in the excellence coffee sector worldwide.

The Bazzara Panarabica line is available in beans, packaged in 250g and 1kg bags.

From Busan to the Bazzara Academy: two Korean journalists from the Busan Ilbo are company’s guests for an article on the Trieste Coffee Experts summit

From South Korea visiting the Bazzara Academy to discover all the secrets of coffee with Marco and Franco Bazzara: two journalists from the Busan Ilbo  https://www.busan.com/view/busan/view.php?code=2023072418332233416), one of the most renowned newspapers in the Asian country, recently visited the city for a full immersion in the “Trieste city of coffee” to discover the most interesting news regarding the birth of the event organized by Bazzara which brings together important national and international personalities, the “coffee experts”, to discuss and reflect on the future of the sector.

Journalist Young Mi interviewed Franco Bazzara, President of the roasting company from Trieste, who had the pleasure of talking about the idea, the birth of the project, its supporters, making an excursus as well on the important company history and 50 years in the coffee industry of the roasting firm, with the family passion handed down from generation to generation. The journalists, who came to Trieste to find out what events are linked to the world of coffee and are organized in the city, thus discovered the engine and heart that animates the Trieste Coffee Experts byBazzara, a biennial event entirely dedicated to the future of the black elixir and which this year will be held in the city of Trieste on November 25thand 26th, 2023.

A visit that certainly has a reason, a common vision, and objectives. Indeed, the city of Busan is taking important steps towards becoming a global coffee city. The launch of the Coffee City BusanForum was important, a project of great significance that is preparing to host major coffee events, including the National Barista Contest. The Busan Coffee City Forum’s efforts are instrumental in making Busan a perfect city for coffee, comparable to global coffee cities such as Seattle, Vienna, Melbourne and Trieste.

A collaboration born between the city of Busan, the Busan City Council, the Busan Daily and the coffee industry who have agreed to promote sustainable growth and create an ecosystem for the coffee industry in the city of Busan. About 60 experts from each division, focusing on a total of 7 divisions, including technology and research and development (R&D), subsidiary equipment and materials, manpower training, branding, tourism, logistics and culture, hold meetings twice a year to develop Busan in this industry. In addition, the city of Busan has joined the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) to promote the “Sustainable Coffee City Busan” brand and grow the industry globally, striving to establish the right culture for the emergence of the coffee industry. In fact, Busan is carrying out various projects to make Busan a “sustainable coffee city”. As a representative example, Busan Technopark is building a “green bean library platform” which scientifically analyses green beans to obtain objective taste data.

The visit of the journalists at Bazzara was a very welcomed surprise that underlines the most significant characteristic of the roasting company, i.e., staying together to create culture and “network” in the world of coffee, aware that it is essential to merge energies for commonsuccess. Furthermore, for Busan “Global City of Coffee”, the Trieste Coffee Experts is an excellent example to follow, this year’s event will in fact have as its main theme the future of coffee oriented towards innovation and sustainability. Entitled “Innovation & Sustainability Oriented”, this year’s edition of Trieste Coffee Experts will feature important speeches concerning the culture, innovation and digital transition of coffee. Finally, the constant commitment of the Trieste-based company should not be forgotten, which has embarked on a real path of awareness and responsibility aimed at generating new stimuli for the future with a constant eye on the UN Agenda for sustainable development.

The guests then received a message from Dora Maria Penaloza of Abc Net of Rome, a company that promotes commercial and cultural encounters between the countries of Central and South America and various European countries. In her letter, Penaloza recalled how strong the union between the Trieste company and her country of origin is. There were many questions and curiosities from the public, in fact the guests said they were enthusiastic about this exchange that took place in an atmosphere of total sharing because, once again, it was agreed that coffee is truly a “lifestyle” that unites.

The Fairtrada Bazzara coffees

Bazzara has always proposed to its consumer organic and high-quality products and among the many projects connected to nature and social aims, the fair-trade certifications by Fairtrade could not miss. Fairtrade is an international organisation which works every day to improve the conditions of farmers in the developing countries, a job they do through precise standards which allow farmers and workers to have a more stable income and trustfully look at their future. The Fairtrade label certifies the raw materials of many products realised without exploiting the workers and the environment, helping the final consumer do the right choice in an easy and conscious way.

Fairtrade supports a sustainable agriculture in many ways and it works together with the farmers in facing the climate emergency through reforestation projects, training programs to make the plantations resilient to the effects of the climate crisis and biodiversity protection projects. Thanks to Fairtrade farmers can plant new trees, can be trained, get support on the field, and can have a higher income to adapt their crops.

As far as coffee is concerned, the Fairtrade Label means that 100% of the product is realised only with beans coming from certified organisations, only of small farmers. Fairtrade Bazzara certified coffees are Colombia Bioarabica fairtrade, Messico Bioarabica Fairtrade and Perù Bioarabica Fairtrade. The company has selected some of the best arabica varieties in the world, cultivated without fertilisers, synthetical pesticides and herbicides, and without GMOs. The label on the products Perù, Colombia and Mexico certifies the respect of the social, environmental and economical standards of Fairtrade agreed on an international level. Goals and missions that Bazzara has always shared.

Presented in the preview organised during the exhibition TriestEspresso Expo, the TCE will be held this year in its 6th edition: an idea born out of the main characteristic of the Bazzara brothers, the idea of networking in the field of coffee and of spreading the culture of Italian coffee, being aware that it is fundamental to pool the energies for a common success. Trieste city of coffee: the regional video that celebrates the shared values of a millenary tradition

Trieste is a tourist city that has always welcomed its visitors with excellent coffee to be tasted in its bars, in the evocative historic cafés and in the numerous roasteries present. A strong link that was celebrated by PromoTurismoFVG with the creation of a video to narrate the indissoluble link between the black elixir with this splendid border area and its people, shaping its customs and traditions since ancient times. A particular relationship that all Trieste feel and experience as a moment to dedicate to themselves, a moment of indispensable pleasure, an invaluable value that represents them and unites different cultures.

Coffee is the narrative voice in the storytelling of the video and, scrolling through the wonderful views of the city, it tells its bond with Trieste that has lasted for hundreds of years. The different ways of ordering a drink, the historic places and a widespread culture of the ritual of a tasteful break in the images of the video made by PromoTurismoFVG which also promotes some of the most exciting views of the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia “I was born here, where the wisdom of distant traditions intertwine and the old meets the new. I owe a lot to this land because it has understood the best of my essence (…)”, the protagonist reveals himself amidst views of the wonderful Trieste coast and historic cafés.

Not just an energizing and heart-warming drink, coffee is much more, it is a symbol of Made in Italy and of the Italian lifestyle; it means value, culture, sharing and tradition. As can be seen from the video and as the narrator tells us, Trieste is in fact internationally recognized as the historic capital of espresso coffee. This recognition was won with effort and passion, in three centuries of coffee tradition carried out by an entire sector of the supply chain present in the city, always ready to innovate but lovingly preserving the ancient traditions.

Walking through the narrow streets and among the elegant historic cafes, it is very easy, even for a distracted tourist, to pleasantly come across the local coffee culture, in talks about the quality of the espresso served in the bars, but it is also possible to meet curious characters who, technicians of the matter, they professionally taste, analyze and make the blends. Trieste boasts an invaluable tradition which currently translates into a thriving coffee business. But it’s not just a question of data, but of culture, of city experience: the aroma of coffee can be breathed in the air, transported by the Bora. The culture of coffee really has distant roots, many opportunities for tourists who after a visit remember the city with pleasure thanks to the long tradition of Trieste coffee.

Trieste is in fact a city that has so much to offer and tourists have noticed this for some time. The increase in flows is constantly growing and the experiential aspect of the local cultural heritage is of particular interest: among these, the culture of Trieste coffee with its unmistakable “special coffees” is inevitable. “The city of Trieste has had a very close relationship with this drink for centuries – says Franco Bazzara, President of the homonymous Trieste roasting company -. This is why the Italians, and the people of Trieste in particular, are holders of a heritage that must be valued as a collective good”.

Bazzara, which has always supported the “network” between people and institutions, together with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region has promoted Trieste as a “City of Coffee” also in support of the candidacy of the “Rite of Espresso Coffee” as intangible heritage of humanity for UNESCO. Companies and institutions do their part, which is why even today it is possible to support the candidacy with a simple signature through this link, a signature that also means promoting and supporting this wonderful city. “It is an opportunity that we cannot afford to miss – continues Franco Bazzara – and Trieste, the capital of coffee, will do its part because our city, this territory, is a scientific pole, it is sea, it is Barcolana, but it is also coffee . And coffee will contribute to the future development of the city, to its growth, without forgetting that coffee also contributes to the growth of tourism”.

“I always think that if tourism equals relaxation, or conviviality, or everyday life, then coffee always fits. I am sure that tourists recognize the cappuccino espresso as one of the symbols of the Bel Paese, and therefore look for it, to enjoy its benefits, and we know that if it is made to perfection with a quality blend… it is a small great moment of joy” concludes Franco Bazzara.

Anthropocentrism, resilience ands sustainability: Bazzara goes towards the metaverse and the industry 5.0

The video of the success registered during the presentation of the TCE preview thanks to important guests of the field coming from all over Italy. Key topic: sustainability.

The summit organised by Bazzara and dedicated to the coffee world will be finally live on its 6th edition at the end of November with a wide range of participants both national and international. Many companies have already joined and confirmed their presence as exclusive partners. An example, Clubhouse with Carlo Barbi, CEO and CDO of the company, this year again our partner as diamond sponsor. “Networking and creating a shared knowledge is a very difficult task in our country, Italy, where we can find 8000 municipalities. The Bazzara family, with the kindness and skills that characterise it, has been able to design over the years an event, the TCE, which involves the entire coffee industry through the participation of many renown names of the sector with the aim of creating a community able to make the entire sector grow. We are really pleased and honoured of having the opportunity to participate in this initiative since the very beginning”.

(FOTO: Cosimo Libardo, treasurer of the International Board of the Specialty Coffee Association on the occasion of the TCE Preview at the TriestEspresso Expo).

Bazzara is ready to present the Trieste Coffee Experts – TCE, the unique biennial summit which will come back at the end of 2023 with important news concerning especially the topics of sustainability and innovation. After the great success registered during the preview organised by the historical Trieste roasting company on the occasion of the TriestEspresso Expo, many partners have already joined the project.

This success was also thanks to the participation of the main Italian coffee sector representatives who took part in the opening event in October. Just to name some of them: Luigi Morello, President of the Italian Espresso Institute (IEI); Michele Cannone and Edoardo Cucco, Global Brand Director and Brand Manager of Lavazza; Massimo Renda, President of Caffè Borbone; Giuseppe Biffi, Digital Enterprise Siemens and Cosimo Libardo, Treasurer of the International Board of the Specialty Coffee Association.

When you are a small company, how can you face the market? You have to start from the foundations, from the creation of a system of shared values which must be clear inside the company”, says Cosimo Libardo. “This means creating a clear identity. The system of values are more and more important and they represent a possibility for small and medium enterprises in the coffee field, if they work in a certain way and with a certain mindset”.

During the event, Giuseppe Biffi of Siemens also said, “We are putting ourselves in the game as far as sustainability is concerned. Our plants will be “0 impact” within 2030 and we already have done much. However, we also want to help our partners, our customers, the companies we work with”.

On the occasion of the preview the most current topics were dealt with, especially those concerning the entire coffee production system, with a specific focus on sustainability. It was an opportunity to think and to share which through dialogue allowed to identify the best way to face the challenges of the market and highlighted the need of “networking”: unite the strengths of the entire sector, support the exchange of knowledge and expertise to improve each professionalism. These are the objectives that Bazzara has been pursuing since always in its communication and culture divulgation job, uniting the powers of professionals and enthusiasts.

The preview of the TCE was a wonderful occasion not only to know and understand the clearer direction that the companies of this sector are going, with huge improvements and with environment and sustainability always in the foreground, but also it allowed a better knowledge and a media launch: many participating partners got a greater exposure for them and their logo thanks to the 360 degrees event presentation.

Mauro Bazzara, CEO of the company, underlined in his speech especially the need of a cultural change and a change of the business model which takes us from a linear pattern with a no limit extraction to the awareness of the need of a circular pattern which ideally freezes the extraction state at the minimum level needed. “Our reference point is the Agenda 2030. The purpose of our company can, thus, be summarised in the words Coffee for Pleasure, People & Planet. This means for us, also as a Benefit Society, not only offering a sustainable product but also being a sustainable company. Among our new goals of common benefit enlisted in our statute, indeed, some stand out, especially those concerning the compromise for the environment from different perspectives, the development of sustainable innovation practices and processes, the attention to have a positive impact on people and the will of supporting collaborations and synergies with all the stakeholders”.

The many paths of coffee at the Trieste Coffee Experts

The event Trieste Coffee Experts has always aimed at talking, understanding, gathering, discussing, contrasting, imagining, dreaming and thinking about… What can happen in the coffee system?

This is how we anticipate for the 6th edition of the TCE 20 among the most well-known coffee experts: in an exclusive video realised by the company itself, available also on the Youtube channel and which collects the main ideas and the focus of the summit.

Here there are three short excerpts.

The future of coffee is positive and extremely interesting. The main reasons for this are the new generations around the world who appreciate more and more this drink. There are new consumers who see coffee not only as a product, but as a lifestyle element”, Michele Cannone states, Global Brand Director of Lavazza and one of the many speakers.

Simone Marzoroli, Business Owner Coffee Tree, and Carlo Barbi, CEO and WOner of Clubhouse conclude, “in these years coffee has fully entered the food and beverage system. It is an invaluable heritage which we must safeguard”.

Many experts were present at the preview of the event which took place during the TriestEspresso Expo, international coffee exhibition. It was not only an occasion of reflection and debate to deal with the most current topics connected with the entire coffee system but also a moment to live thanks to workshops and conferences where through dialogue allowed to identifly the best ways to face the challenges of the market underlying the need of networking and supporting the exchange of knowledge and expertise to improve each other’s professionalism.

The event Trieste Coffee Experts is part of the hard work by the historical Trieste roasting company Bazzara, which has been promoting for years a 360° enhancement of high-quality coffee and of what turns around it, with the aim of giving value and promoting the culture of espresso coffee as an invaluable heritage symbol of Italy, the Bel Paese. Another reason to organise events like this is to support the creation of new synergies among the protagonists of Italian coffee. The main topic of this new edition, again live in November, will be innovation inevitably connected to the idea of sustainability, a paramount topic in a constantly changing world.

BAZZARA ESPRESSO, ITALIAN COFFEE HERITAGE

From the dream of a Trieste coffee artisan to the reality of a dynamic and international company.

Recently mentioned by National Geographic and included by Forbes among the 100 excellences of Italian food, Bazzara Espresso was born in 1966, when Dionisio Bazzara took over the Triestine roasting “La Brasiliana”. He is a dreamer who bets everything on his passion for the world of coffee, passing it on to his children and grandchildren with enthusiasm and rigour.

In the 1960s, Trieste already had almost three centuries of coffee-making tradition behind it, during which it successfully developed the entire production chain of the sector in the city. It begins to be recognized throughout the world as the Italian capital of espresso and it is the right place at the right time.
In three generations the family business flourishes, establishing itself nationally and internationally as an artisan producer of high quality blends.

Today, Bazzara Espresso sells its selections of the best varieties of Arabica and Robusta in thirty-five countries, from all over the world and harmoniously blended in its Bazzara blends, which contain the essence of the Made in Italy art of coffee. The very wide range of Bazzara gourmet products, which can also be purchased recently by private individuals thanks to the launch of the e-shop, fully expresses the values of the Italian lifestyle and an artisan tradition that makes the difference. The company guarantees coffee that is always extremely fresh over time, only from batches from the best coffee-growing areas on the planet and rigorously slow and calibrated roasting for the single origin.

Bazzara Espresso is also committing itself to an increasingly ethical and sustainable production conversion process, which includes energy saving policies, enhancement of human resources and the promotion of a new line of certified organic products. The gaze is aimed at the future, at constant innovation, at the well-being of one’s multicultural work team, which boasts a clear prevalence of women and an extremely young average age.

Without ever forgetting the healthy and deep roots, which sink into a family humus of experiences, values, knowledge and relationships that have become a precious heritage. From this awareness, and from the balance between creative thrust and ancient principles, new initiatives and realities have arisen within Bazzara Espresso. They always revolve around coffee, understood however no longer only as a product to be sold but as a cultural heritage to be communicated.
